Prickly Pear Salon was founded in 2017 when Laura took a leap to create a salon suite where clients could feel completely at home while receiving top-notch services. Her vision was to cultivate a space where authenticity thrived, empowering everyone who walked through the door to grow and flourish from the inside out.

By 2021, Prickly Pear Salon had blossomed into its first brick-and-mortar location in the heart of Cary, North Carolina. Laura continues to nurture a welcoming environment, staying true to her commitment to sustainability and creating a salon that reflects her core values.

We believe in a pricing model based on time and product, not labels. As a proud member of the Dress Code Project, we’re dedicated to creating a safer space for LGBTQ2S+ clients. That means fostering a welcoming, judgment-free environment where everyone can express themselves authentically. Our team is trained to provide inclusive services, ensuring every guest feels seen, respected, and celebrated—because great hair has no gender, but it does deserve a place that feels like home.
We believe in the power of community and doing our part to make a meaningful impact. Beyond great hair, we’re committed to giving back—whether it’s volunteering our time, organizing annual donation drives, or supporting local causes. In the past, we’ve partnered with The Great Raleigh Cleanup to pick up trash, helped sort clothing for Note In the Pocket, and collaborated with other small businesses to uplift our local community. To make sure you're paired with the stylist who’s the best fit for your needs, we require all new guests—and those who haven’t been with us in 6+ months—to fill out a Digital Consultation Form. This helps us make personalized recommendations and ensures that your visit is everything you’re looking for.

At Prickly Pear Salon, we prioritize the well-being of our team and guests. From flexible work schedules to regular breaks for self-care, we’ve created a work environment where our stylists thrive and can give you their best every time.
We’re committed to minimizing our impact on the planet. Through our partnership with SalonCycle, we recycle and divert up to 90% of our salon waste, including hair clippings, excess color, foils, snack wrappers, and coffee pods. We use energy-efficient lighting, smart thermostats, and a refillable water cooler to reduce single-use plastics.

This commitment is made possible by our Environmental Fee, which is $1 for cuts and $2 for color. These small contributions from each guest help fund our SalonCycle partnership, ensuring we can continue our sustainable practices.

Our commitment to sustainability also extends to the products we carry. We proudly offer EVO Hair and Marley’s Monsters products, which support your journey to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Additionally, our VISH color management system enhances sustainability by reducing waste and ensuring consistent, high-quality results for every guest.
